Abstract

The Atlas of Canada 1,000,000 National Scale Frameworks Data, Protected Areas consists of area geospatial and attribute data for Canada's protected areas which are 1000 hectares or larger in size. It was created using polygon and attribute data supplied by the Canadian Wildlife Service at Environment Canada, on behalf of the Canadian Council on Ecological Areas, and integrated with the existing National Scale Frameworks layers. It provides a representation of Canada's terrestrial and marine protected areas that are 1000 hectares or larger. An update to the data set was completed in 2007 with an increase in the number of protected areas by approximately 14%.

Purpose

The Atlas of Canada 1,000,000 National Frameworks Data are a set of integrated base map layers, which form the Atlas of Canada 1,000,000 National Frameworks Data collection. These data have been compiled at a scale of 1:1,000,000 with the primary goal being to indicate correct relative positioning with other frameworks layers rather than absolute positional accuracy.
